Gullane Golf Club
The Club
“There is probably no other golfing centre quite as good as Gullane,” wrote acclaimed golf writer Bernard Darwin on sight of our famed East Lothian village, and 100 years on that sentiment still rings true.
“Gullane Hill, with the sun shining, the wind blowing, the scattered clouds in big blue skies, and just a glimpse of Edinburgh in the distance – its Castle and the mighty tracery of the Forth Bridge, is one of the most beautiful spots in the world.”
300 Years Of Golfing History
Golf has been played over Gullane links since the 1700s and the game is woven deep into the fabric of the community.
Gullane Golf Club was founded in 1882 and by 1910 there were three 18-hole courses laid out on this special corner of linksland, establishing Gullane as one of the most important and popular golfing locations.
Gullane has alway been at the heart of the game and was one of the 25 clubs who contributed to the cost of the Amateur Championship trophy, which it hosted the qualifying for in 1998.
Over the years Gullane has staged major amateur championships, hosted Open Championship Final Qualifying, and most notably, the Scottish Opens of 2015 and 2018 won by Rickie Fowler, Brandon Stone and Aniya Jutanugarn.
Championship Links
Gullane offers a choice of three wonderful links courses spread over Gullane Hill and beyond, with each giving spectacular coastal views over the Firth of Forth.
Titled in order of their establishment, Gullane No.1, Gullane No.2 and Gullane No.3 each provide golfers with a test that is distinct in character but sharing common traits of firm and fast fairways, beautifully smooth greens, hazardous pot bunkers and dramatic vistas.
No.1 is a true test of championship links golf, No.2 is the Champion’s Challenge characterised by its exceptional variety of holes, while No.3 is Gullane’s Gem and the embodiment of what golf should be – fun.
World Class Facilities
Gullane’s world-class practice facilities give all members and visitors the opportunity to sharpen their short game before a round, and work on their swing on the driving range.
The short-game area features three bunkers and a variety of pitching and chipping stations, while an expansive driving range sits between the opening holes of No.2 and No.3 courses.
We have two practice putting greens – one next to the 1st tee of Gullane No.1 and the beside Gullane No.2, with green speeds to match the slick putting surfaces of all three courses. Practice balls are included within the visitors’ green fees.
Keepers Of The Green
We have a team of dedicated, passionate and talented greenkeepers, proudly maintaining and presenting our three fantastic links courses to the best possible standards, enhancing the experience for our members and the thousands of visitors who flock to Gullane.
Embracing nature and the surrounding our linksland, we have teams dedicated to each course and adjacent facilities, priding themselves on Gullane’s playability all year round and boasting some of the finest putting surfaces in the country.
